It added to De Gea's fourth Manchester United Player of the Year award he collected this month as Mourinho lauded the Spain global.

David De Gea's career with Manchester United is becoming increasingly decorated.

But he admits De Gea's growth has been phenomenal to watch and indicated that his brilliance between the sticks has shielded some shoddy defending from Manchester United.

The shot-stopper was also named in the PFA Team of the Year.

The 0-0 draw at West Ham on Thursday night ensured Manchester United will finish the season second in the Premier League and it also confirmed De Gea in winning the Golden Glove award.

Yet Mourinho refused to criticise his side despite another toothless attacking display as they sealed second place in the league with a 0-0 draw at West Ham.

"It feels good, it is my first Golden Glove award", he told MUTV after the match at the London Stadium.

"If United beat Chelsea next Saturday - and I really wouldn't be tempted to bet against them - that will be three trophies in the space of 16 months".

If you asked any Manchester United fan at the start of the season if they'd be happy with at the prospect of 81 points in the Premier League and a place in the FA Cup final, they probably would have snapped your hand off.

Mourinho did reserve praise for de Gea, calling his shutout award a "great team achievement". "It's always good to be able to help out the team, and to try and be at your highest level of form possible to be able to earn points for the team", the Spaniard said.

"David has been terrific".

Considering de Gea is among the best goalkeepers in the world, it's been a surprise to see him win the Golden Glove in his seventh season at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old has had 118 clean sheets in 314 appearances for Manchester United since joining the club in 2011.

"The game is about getting trophies and results and Jose Mourinho has proven he is the man to get them".
