Loew could well announce an expanded provisional list, like a number of other national team coaches, and wait until the June 4 deadline to reveal his final 23-man squad for the tournament. "And after the training camp we want to talk fair and square".

Reus, who missed half of this season through injury, was ruled out of the 2014 World Cup after being injured in Germany's last warm-up match.

"We will see how it goes from day-to-day", Germany coach Joachim Loew told reporters. He wasn't able to show his incredible quality. "It excites me to develop the players, to make them better and to form a team", Loew said.

While Goetze misses out, coach Joachim Loew pulled a surprise by handing Freiburg striker Nils Petersen a first call-up.

Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi and Liverpool midfielder Emre Can have both been snubbed too, while Sven Ulreich, who has played nearly the whole season with Bayern Munich, has been left out.

However, Mesut Ozil, Jerome Boateng and Manuel Neuer are all included despite concerns over their fitness, with the latter having been sidelined since September.

Germany face Mexico, Sweden and South Korea in World Cup Group F and will prepare in the Italian Alps from May 23 to June 5 ahead of the tournament in Russian Federation.

The Premier League is also represented in the squad, with Arsenal's Mesut Ozil joined by Manchester City duo Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane, along with Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger.

The squad and their club-side are as follows: Goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer (Bayern), Marc-André ter Stegen (Barcelona), Bernd Leno (Bayer Leverkusen), Kevin Trapp (PSG).
