Traditionally, the "Downvote" feature on Reddit suggests that the user found the comment offensive or misleading. According to the social networking website, the Facebook downvote button should curb the comments that might hurt the feelings of someone or disrespect someone.

Apparently, this is just a limited test for the time being, with only 5% of US Android users that have English set as their language participating. For this Facebook will take help of fact checker to reduce the number of such post of users news-feed. Can it be enough or do we still need a real dislike button? The increasing influence of fake news at social and political level creates conflict as Facebook has become an integral part of people's lives around the world.

Facebook has confirmed the expansion of testing for a new Reddit-like feature that lets users "upvote" or "downvote" comments, so results are based on popularity.

Taking all this into consideration, it is now unclear as to why the social media giant is considering this new functionality for its platform. Facebook notes that the up arrow is meant to be used when a comment is helpful, while down is meant to be used when a comment is disrespectful.

They added that the button was being used to see if it helped enable "better public discussions".

While it's visible to everyone when you like a post or comment on Facebook, upvoting or downvoting a comment will be totally anonymous - well, Facebook will know, but not your friends or the total strangers who're involved in the conversation. Prior to the downvote, Facebook introduced reaction options in 2016.

There have been mixed reactions about the feature on social media. Now, Facebook is taking things further by rolling out the downvote button to more users across the globe. "That doesn't seem like the kind of community we want to create", CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in 2015.

'Given the current debate about Facebook's role in public online discourse and news, it makes sense that the platform is trialling different ways for users to interact with content in a public setting, ' he said.
