Winner Of $533 Million Mega Millions Jackpot To Claim Prize

A New Jersey production manager stepped out of obscurity on Friday to reveal himself as the newest millionaire-by-chance after a $2 Mega Millions ticket he bought at a gas station last month yielded him a jackpot of more than a half billion dollars.

It's the fourth largest jackpot in the game's history and the second highest for a single ticket.

"We're a humble family and we're going to keep our roots", Wahl, 47, told reporters Friday.

He said he's not a regular lottery player, but made a decision to play after talking to a coworker about how they'd retire if they won.

And his lucky numbers?

Wahl declined to discuss his family, citing security concerns, but said he told no one about the win until he met with financial advisers - even his mother. "Family, friends, people in need", he said, reported.

'Actually the weird thing is my mom actually called me before I wanted to tell her and told me "I heard somebody in New Jersey won the lottery, was it you?" Wahl waited two weeks before claiming his windfall.

Since he selected the cash option over the annuity, Wahl will receive only $324.6 million, which New Jersey Lottery officials estimated will leave him with a net of about $221 million after federal and state taxes.

The owner of the store, Ameer Krass, said he had been able to identify Wahl by reviewing surveillance footage. He also urged anyone who might know him to give the victor "the space they deserve".

Wahl moved to New Jersey from MI in July after getting a new job at AAK Food Service in Hillside NJ. He said he was getting on a flight Friday night, but wouldn't say where he was going. If he could have stayed private, he would have, Wahl said, but New Jersey doesn't allow that.
