UHS sweeps baseball, softball slate Tuesday

In the first inning, sophomore shortstop Courtney Cashman stole a base forcing an error that helped bring a runner home to tie the game 1-1.

The UHS softball team mainly used consistent offense to take down the LA Lady Wildcats, but the Lady Bees also had to stop a small rally in the final few innings.

"The first five games of the season have been fun", Hastings said Monday.

The Jefferson softball team took the game back to a simple level against Hampshire on Friday.

"Since then, we've steadily improved, each game getting better".

"We as a team are looking forward to the big week". Ellard's record drops to 1-4.

The Vikings lost their last two games 8-5 to Ukiah and 23-3 to Cardinal Newman.

Kelsey Sturgeon limited the Tigers to two earned runs on just five hits, and Lauren Landes enjoyed a ideal day with four runs batted in as Pendleton Heights dominated the Madison County Softball Tournament title game with a 14-3 win over Alexandria. Lafferty had two hits and two RBI's.

Oxford Prep racked up 19 hits on Tuesday and Kaci Roberson drove in four runs on three hits to lead the Griffins to a 22-1 victory over Voyager Academy. Chris Walker had two hits and two RBIs.

The Panthers added seven more runs to their lead in the fifth inning.

Kaylah Briddell had two hits in three at-bats for the Indians in the win over the Eagles.

Brown singled home a run before Closser tripled home two more runs. Ball finished the game three for three with five RBIs and just a single short of hitting for the cycle.

Hubbard and Turner each had one RBI. She walked a batter in the fifth.

Northmor claimed their second baseball win of the week on Tuesday, topping Buckeye Central 10-7 in a non-league contest on the road. DiMauro struck out three in seven innings.

LHS' Sammy Williams tripped to lead off the bottom of the second and then scored on a wild pitch.

Other Tigers with singles were Barlow, Hubbard and senior Darbie Noonan.

Brian Langer was the winning pitcher for the 3-2 JV Braves. Tad Fisher came on in relief, going the final three innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out seven. A one-out walk would come around to score on an error.

Good Hope managed to come up with two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice bunt and a fielder's choice, but it was too little too late for the Lady Raiders and West Point wrapped up a 10-5 victory that moved them into Thursday's title game.

Colvin went the distance allowing just one unearned run while striking out five and walking two.

They included Noonan, Owens, Pearce, Turner and freshman Alice Kollar.

St. Catherine's (0-2, 0-1 MCC) was led offensively by Anthony Schiro, who went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Nuckols singled to center field before Foellner hit an RBI single to center field and Gerdes doubled on a fly ball to center field to send Nuckols and Foellner across home plate.
