Modi Calls for Social Movement Against Sexual Crimes, Launches Gram Swaraj Abhiyan

Addressing a gathering at the launch of Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan on National Panchayati Raj Day in Madhya Pradesh's Mandla on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a social movement for protection of girls.

The Prime Minister underscored the efforts towards self-reliance in the agriculture sector.

Mir said that the government is hell bent upon to abolish and change the three-tier Panchayat system of PRIs in the State aiming to elect their party representatives as Sarpanchs and Panchs without going through the normal course as prescribed under the Panchayati Raj Act, which is anti-people and a futile process on the part of government, besides badly affecting the functioning of Panchayat Raj Institutions in the State. "If a life is transformed due to a pradhan, India moves in the right direction", he said, adding he small steps lead to big change. He urged the panchayat representatives to spend NREGA funds during the months of April, May and June only on works related to water conservation.

PM Modi also laid the foundation stone of an LPG bottling plant of the Indian Oil Corporation at Maneri following which he launched a local government directory.

The Rs 120-crore plant will supply LPG cylinders to Mandlas neighbouring districts such as Balaghat, Singrauli, Rewa, Shahdol and Jabalpur. He emphasized the use of technology, including mobile phones, to bring transparency and efficiency in implementing welfare initiatives.

He further said people would be made aware of seven schemes including Ujala Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana-Saubhagya, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Jiwan Jyoti Bima Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojna and Mission Indradhanush.

The programme seeks to address critical gaps that hinder the success of Panchayats by enhancing their capacities and effectiveness and promote devolution of powers and responsibilities.

With the view of overall development of tribal over the next five year, The Prime Minister will unveil a road map. Likewise, happy and prosperous villages could boost development of the country.The Union Minister was speaking at national workshop on "Panchayat Dwara Gramin Kshetro Ka Kayakalp" (Transformation of Rural Areas through Panchayat) organised at a city hotel.
