"She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy and I offered to help her financially during this hard period", he added.

CNN has reached out to Cohen for comment.

Cohen has been at the center of a controversy over a $130,000 payment he has admitted making shortly before the 2016 election to porn star Stormy Daniels, who has said that she had sex once with Trump in 2006 and was paid to keep quiet about it. Daniels sued Trump on the grounds that the non-disclosure agreement she signed regarding the affair was invalid. Cohen and Trump are now being sued by porn star Stormy Daniels, who seeks to void her own hush deal over an alleged dalliance with Trump for which she was paid $130,000.

The lawyer for the Playboy model involved with Broidy said his client had no statement and clarified that she isn't McDougal.

Elliott Broidy, the RNC's national deputy finance chairman, told BuzzFeed News in a statement, "First, I would like to sincerely apologize to my wife and family for the hurt that I have caused".

With fired FBI Director James Comey commandeering the political spotlight with his forthcoming shady memoir that likens President Donald Trump to a mob boss, and a much anticipated media blitz, starting with an interview Sunday with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, the Republican Party countered with a timely video about Comey's lack of credibility.

Michael Cohen, the personal attorney for President Donald Trump, reportedly helped negotiate a deal between major Republican fundraiser Elliot Broidy and a Playboy model for her silence. The New York Times has described him using his access to Trump to push for policy moves, including the firing of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, that were backed by leaders in the United Arab Emirates, where Broidy has lucrative defense contracts. He has met with Trump frequently at Mar-a-Lago and at the White House.

On Friday he claimed he had been the first to report the story.

Broidy confirmed the relationship but stated that it was the woman's decision to terminate the pregnancy.

"It is unfortunate that this personal matter between two consenting adults is the subject of national discussion just because of Michael Cohen's involvement", Broidy added. Daniels at the time of the payment was being represented by Keith Davidson, the same attorney who represented the woman in the Broidy negotiations, according to the Journal. Although I had not previously hired Mr. Cohen, I retained Mr. Cohen after he informed me about his prior relationship with Mr. Davidson'.
