Cosby defense team hits accusers on monetary gains for victims

Two accusers lashed out at Bill Cosby from the witness stand on Wednesday morning, as his sexual assault retrial took a dramatic turn in its third day of testimony.

In testimony that squared with her remarks at Cosby's first trial last June, Constand told the jury that she had gotten to know Cosby gradually when he contacted her for sports information at Temple, where Cosby was an alum and major booster. Cosby reportedly paid Constand $3.4 million in a civil lawsuit settlement in 2006.

The defense argued that the large payment is by no means an admission of wrongdoing on Cosby's part, but rather evidence of Constand's financial incentive in pursuing charges against him, a perspective prosecutors vehemently reject.

Prosecutors say it was the "Cosby Show" star who betrayed Constand's trust by giving her pills and then violating her at his suburban Philadelphia mansion.

Pairing a bright white blazer and sneakers with a coral top, Constand closed out the first week of Cosby's retrial this afternoon immediately after the Montgomery County jury heard similar stories of assault from five other women whose claims against Cosby are too old to prosecute.

They're expected to call Jackson as a witness, though O'Neill has reserved a decision on whether he'll allow her to testify until after Constand steps down from the stand.

First trial: "I felt really humiliated".

"Did you ever ask where she was?" "I was thinking how wrong it was".

Constand's lawyer, Dolores Troiani, called the defense attacks on her client "outrageous" and "baseless". Cosby stood trial past year on the charges, but the jury was unable to reach a verdict. "He took that all away from me".

During almost three hours of cross-examination, which will continue on Monday, defense attorney Tom Mesereau established a total of nine face-to-face visits between Cosby and Constand before and after the alleged attack and asked whether Constand had ever seen Cosby's wife during those meetings.

The police report filed by Chelan Lasha (shuh-LAWN' LASH'-uh) lacked numerous details she testified about Wednesday at Cosby's sexual assault retrial. "For justice", said Andrea Constand.

"I want to see a serial rapist convicted", Ms Thomas replied. But she allegedly developed double vision, started slurring her words and lost consciousness.

At one point, Constand said, Cosby touched her on the thigh and another time tried to unzip her trousers while sitting next to her.

Fending off aggressive cross-examination from Cosby's celebrity defence attorney, who shot to fame for getting Michael Jackson acquitted of child molestation, Baker-Kinney stuck to her guns. "I thought something was wrong, he was exhausted and it was late", Constand said.

O'Neill had blocked Jackson from testifying at the first trial.

Wyatt said the women traded in "poetic licensing, better known as alternative facts" and were pawns in an "Ocean's 11-style script" cooked up by lawyers Gloria Allred and her daughter, Lisa Bloom, "to extort Mr. Cosby for $100 million".

'You remember me, don't you, Mr. Cosby?' He now faces three counts of aggravated indecent assault, each punishable by up to 10 years in prison. "I kind of said I should be going now, so I sat there for about 10 minutes and watched him sleep then I went back to my room".

Sobbing uncontrollably as she testified, Chelan Lasha told jurors she got to know Cosby through a family connection as a 17-year-old aspiring model and actress.

The young hopefuls who come to Hollywood are desperate for people like Cosby to offer help with their careers, Mesereau said.

The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission, which Constand and the other women have done. The next thing she remembered, she told the jury, was waking with a jolt.

Prosecutors in Montgomery County chose to reconsider the case after a wave of more than 50 women stepped forward in 2014 and 2015 to accuse Cosby of sexual misconduct and assault.
