Wednesday forecast: sunny and windy, high 50

The National Weather Service' updated forecast is looking at winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour with a band of moderate to briefly heavy snow falling over southern Wisconsin late in the afternoon into the evening, with a quick 2 to 4 inches possible. The normal high for this day is 42° but highs the next several will be in the 30s.

Some spotty snow chances will start us off on Thursday, but skies should start to clear some by the afternoon and evening hours. West wind 10 to 17 miles per hour.

The weekend forecast hasn't changed...expect lots of sunshine, with highs in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees (4 to 5 degrees Celsius), and this general temperature regime shouldn't change much as we move through next week.

Brisk northwest winds will drive the temperature below freezing by sunrise. Skies are mostly cloudy, and conditions are quite breezy. Today will be a windy day with gusts at times near 30 miles per hour.

Friday: Partly sunny, high near 35. The rain belt is moving west to east and there will be an increasingly brisk wind across southern areas from the west. Cloudy, with a low about 24. Less than an inch will accumulate today, but around an inch or so could be on the ground by daybreak Thursday as the scattered snow could last through the night. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Light accumulations will be possible Friday night. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Light snow will be likely Sunday. Tuesday will be mostly sunny as highs remain in the mid-40s. Slight chance of snow.

Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 29.

Saturday: Partly sunny, high near 39. This should also bring rain and snow and very gusty winds.
