In order to be back in the competition with Amazon, and Jeff Bezos, Walmart is now upping the ante.

The announcement comes a day after Walmart, Amazon's biggest rival, rolled out its own meal kits and "one-step meals" to more than 250 stores, with plans to expand to more than 2,000 stores nationwide this year.

Walmart is launching meal kits and making a number of other investments in its grocery business as it looks to defend its position as the top grocer in the USA by sales, following Amazon's purchase of Whole Foods past year.

But the demand for fresh meal solutions has become so great, Walmart couldn't continue to watch from afar.

Compared to other vendors in the market, Walmart offers no subscription, which is a positive effect in itself. "These delicious meals give the best or worst of cooks a fresh, easy option for dinner tonight, or later this week". The retail giant also is re-outfitting a dozen Sam's Club stores into distribution centers for Walmart's online grocery business.

These meal kits are all between $8 and $15.

The pre-portioned kits include all necessary ingredients, already measured and pre-cut for meals such as basil garlic chicken and steak Dijon.

The 2nd type are meal kits you can prepare yourself.

Walmart has started offering three different styles of meal kits in its stores, according to a company release. Walmart shares are down 0.4% in premarket trading, but up 26.8% for the past year. Blue Apron Holdings Inc., for example, has struggled ever since it became a publicly traded company, reported News Ok.

These meal kits come in 5 flavors.
