Trump foresees 'tremendous success' in coming talks with N. Korea

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the usa expects North Korea to be in direct touch after President Donald Trump agreed to Kim Jong Un's invitation to meet, urging patience as preparations for the potentially historic handshake are worked out.

The South Korean security adviser said Kim was prepared to discuss, among other pressing issues, the possibility of North Korea giving up its nuclear habit. His version was accepted and the conference adopted a resolution calling on the USA to withdraw from South Korea.

"There were agreements between the USA and North Korea to open up discussion on a peace treaty, but they never materialized", Koh said, saying the conditions were key.

What's next: Details, including whether North Korea will meet conditions set by the White House for the talks.

He also boasted that his reducing the North Korean nuclear threat helped save the Winter Olympics that were held last month in South Korea.

'I believe they will honour that commitment, ' the president said.

He said that no venue for the meeting had been agreed upon.

"We have not heard anything directly back from North Korea, although we do expect to hear something directly from them", Tillerson said during a press conference from Nigeria.

For the moment, the White House is preparing for the president to meet with Kim sometime in May - and the president is (reportedly) preparing to kill America's nuclear agreement with Iran that same month.

"Let's be very clear", she said in a statement.

Trump reached out to the Asian leaders in phone calls on Friday after his stunning decision to accept an invitation to meet Kim before the end of May.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the unexpected meeting would give Trump a chance "to sit down and see if he can cut a deal" with Kim over the North's nuclear programme.

The Security Council has imposed tough economic sanctions aimed at choking off revenue to Pyongyang's military programs after Kim's regime carried out a sixth nuclear test and a series of advanced missile launches. -South Korean military exercises "a remarkable step forward" and a result of Trump's tough approach.

Tillerson emphasized that the United States would work with its allies, Japan and South Korea, as well as with China and Russian Federation to realize the summit.
