Per NFL.com, the New York Giants, New York Jets, Oakland Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints all could be in the mix for Mathieu.

According to NFL Media, the base of the deal is $7 million.

During his National Football League career, Mathieu has proven he can play either safety position and cover slot receivers as necessary. His 2017 salary of $4.75 million was also fully guaranteed at signing, giving Mathieu $21.25 million before he was completely healed from the injury. "Yeah, Tyrann, he kind of established that position".

Tyrann Mathieu was released Wednesday.

However, he ultimately did take the pay cut he did not want to take and would have made more money staying with Arizona. Mathieu obviously believes he is worth more than what he signed with the Texans for and reportedly even turned down $8 million from the Cardinals, per Kent Somers of AZCentral.com.

But there is a silver lining - the one-year deal allows Mathieu to prove himself, hit free agency in a year where he can again try to land a long-term contract.

One top, non-quarterback, free agent has just landed in a new home.

And his sudden availability had brought the safety market to a standstill. That being said, as mentioned earlier, he's coming off a season in which he played in every single game.
