Facebook Lite first launched in 2015, and was created to be used in countries where wireless carriers didn't have reliable or fast networking hardware.

Today, the social network revealed that the Facebook Lite app is now available to download in the United States, along with other developed markets.

Facebook Inc has issued a statement that they will roll out the stripped down version of its social media platform, Facebook Lite, to more countries including developed ones, to attract users struggling with slower mobile data connections. It offers numerous same features as regular Facebook such as News Feed, push notifications and status updates, but it cuts out some newer features like the marketplace and the built-in web browser. The app will be available for download from Friday.

Facebook Lite is smaller and less taxing on the system than the regular Facebook app, and there aren't as many complaints about abnormal battery usage.

Facebook Lite is generally only a few MB, though it varies by phone.

The Facebook app is notorious for taking up so much storage and memory, as well as eating up a lot of your data.

Facebook has been constantly working to make a better contribution to the society.

Today's expansion is notable because since its launch in 2015, Facebook Lite has only been available to countries with slower mobile data.
