Dead, 1 Injured in Shooting at UAB-Hospital Highlands

Police confirm a now unidentified man shot two people on the second floor of the hospital in Birmingham just before 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The son of Springville mayor William Isley is recovering in the ICU Thursday after Birmingham Police say a UAB employee opened fire inside UAB Highlands Hospital Wednesday evening shortly before 7 p.m., seriously wounding Tim Isley and killing UAB nurse Nancy Swift, 63.

Police responded to an active shooter situation just before 7 p.m. March 14 and said they found two men with gunshot wounds and another man who shot and killed himself.

"One victim is in stable condition", Williston said.

The male shooter was found with a self-inflicted gunshot in a room on the third floor's emergency wing.

The victims are believed to have been on the second floor. The investigation will be led by the Birmingham Police Department.

Capt. H.R. Waton of Birmingham Fire and Rescue told reporters all three individuals involved were critically injured, according to the news station.

All surgeries scheduled for UAB Highlands on Thursday have been canceled.

UAB Highlands Hospital Tyler Greer said both of the deceased were employees of the hospital.
