The Gabon worldwide has been settling into life at The Emirates after having signed for the north London side from Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window.

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan each contributed a goal and an assist after Shkodran Mustafi's header had given the Gunners an early lead in a clinical attacking display at the Emirates Stadium in London. A booming voice announced over the stadium's PA system that Arsenal had reached 1000 Premier League goals.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has received a vote of confidence from club record signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is sorry he can not play this week's Europa League clash with AC Milan. "We feel the confidence is back", Aubameyang said.

As such, those attending this dead-rubber between Arsenal and Watford were guaranteed one of two things: a further descent into the self-parodic darkness which has Arsenal fans in tears because they are only in sixth position in a league where teams enduring a real crisis suffer far worse; or a modicum of - quite possibly misjudged - hope.

Aubameyang is ineligible for Thursday's Europa League second leg against former club Milan, and so can not play for Arsenal again until their Premier League clash with Stoke on April 1. The Armenia global noted that he always enjoys playing with past and present teammate, Gabon forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, saying that this is something special.

He came to England having become only the second African player to win the golden boot in Germany after finishing the 2016/17 Bundesliga season with 31 goals for Dortmund.

Arsenal was menacing in attack right from the start as Mesut Ozil slid Aubameyang through on goal within two minutes, only for Watford goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis to make a good save with his legs.

The Gabon star says that despite concerns he could get injured, he intends to continue with the acrobatics. "That's life. I have to deal with it".

However the 28-year-old can not take part in his side's Europa League campaign as he is ineligible, in spite of not playing in the tournament so far this season. You know what it is when you see your team playing - of course you want to play.

He is frustrated by the UEFA eligibility rules, he said, and "disappointed because I can't help my team". And they're [rules] a bit ....not maybe stupid but something like that.

"I can't play every three days, and that is frustrating".

Wenger is fighting to save his job and a 2-0 win at AC Milan in the Europa League on Thursday offered the Frenchman temporary respite from the torrent of abuse he has endured this season.

Despite an official attendance of 59,131, there were empty seats all around the Emirates with a number of season-ticket holders seemingly put off by the Gunners' disappointing league season.

"If there really is someone who loves this club and wants this club to succeed, it's Arsene", he added.
