After the alleged use of chemical weapons in Eastern Ghouta in January, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that Damascus could be using chemical weapons; he also said that Russian Federation is responsible for the victims because of its engagement in Syria.

"And I think President Trump made that very clear early in his administration".

Trump struck Syrian government forces in Syria last April after a suspected gas attack targeted the town of Khan Sheikhoun.

Haley also warned Syria that the United States was prepared to take military action for alleged chemical attacks that are killing and wounding Syrian civilians.

The Syrian army's onslaught in eastern Ghouta, backed by air and artillery strikes, has killed about 1,160 people since February 18, a war monitor said, as President Bashar al-Assad seeks to crush the last big rebel stronghold near the capital Damascus. "There's an bad lot of reports about chlorine gas use or about symptoms that could be resulting from chlorine gas", Mattis said. "And I would just tell you that I saw no change to the Russian military capability and each of these systems (Putin) is taking about that are still years away", said the Defence Secretary.

Syria's government troops have found a makeshift workshop for making chemical weapons, Colonel Ferraz Ibrahim said on Monday, according to the Tass news agency.

Mr Guterres said the United Nations had offered to facilitate talks between the Syrian government, Russian officials and representatives of the three main rebel groups in the Eastern Ghouta - Jaysh al-Islam, Faylaq al-Rahman and Ahrar al-Sham. But the United States directly accused Russian Federation of killing civilians.

More than 1,160 civilians have been killed since Russia-backed regime forces launched a brutal air and ground assault on Eastern Ghouta, the last stronghold of the armed opposition near the capital Damascus.

Parallel offensives waged by Turkey and the Syrian government on two separate towns in Syria yesterday pushed residents into overcrowded shelters for safety as others tried to flee the advancing forces by road. Oman is a longtime security partner of the USA, though some question whether it is facilitating, or turning a blind eye to, the movement of Iranian weapons to Yemen to aid Houthi rebels. He said he expects to discuss Yemen with Qaboos.

Oman, which borders Yemen on the eastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula, has been ruled by the 77-year-old Qaboos since he took power from his father in a bloodless palace coup in 1970. Oman was the site of secret talks between Iran and the US that birthed Tehran's 2015 nuclear deal with world powers. It is home to the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet.
