Two Ohio Police Officer Killed Responding To 911 Call

FOX 28 Columbus reported a suspect is in custody.

"These were two of the best we had".

Officer Anthony Morelli is one of two officers shot and killed while responding to a call Saturday.

Investigators said they will release more information throughout the day.

The shooting happened just before 1 p.m., according to Columbus Police. "They knew how to do policing the right way - both of them".

"I am very saddened to learn of the deaths of two of my hometown police officers today", Kasich tweeted.

The killings occurred around 11:30 a.m.at Crosswind drive, according to 10 TV.

This afternoon at an emotional press conference, Westerville Chief of Police identified the two police officers slain in an apparent ambush shooting. Reports say the suspect was also shot but their condition was not immediately known.

Police are investigating the scene and residents have arrived to deliver water and coffee to the officers there.

Joering was a 17-year veteran of the Westerville Police Department and Morelli served for 30 years. The other died after being taken to the hospital.

News of the loss of the law enforcement officers' lives rippled around the state of OH and the nation.
