The Department of Health is hosting a special Flu Shot Friday event at clinics across the state where patients can receive free vaccines while supplies last.

Typically the state of Tennessee sees two to three pediatric flu deaths per season, according to WKRN News 2.

No flu-related deaths have been reported publicly in the Triad and Northwest North Carolina.

"This is a severe flu season, and unfortunately there are no signs that it has peaked yet", said State Health Commissioner Kris Box, MD, FACOG. Seventeen more people have died from the flu, the fifth straight week in which more than 10 people have died from the virus.

Because of privacy regulations, DCHHS doesn't pinpoint where those who have suffered flu-related deaths lived, so it's not known how many - if any - of the deaths involved residents of Preston Hollow.

"We're still at a really, really high rate of the flu", said Welch.

Arnold also says it is never too late to get your flu shot. "Flu season runs through May, so it is important to have protection as soon as possible". A flu shot is encouraged for anyone over the age of 6 months who hasn't been immunized.

You can use Maricopa County's flu vaccine finder to search for the nearest flu shot provider.

OSDH data indicates a total of 32 flu-associated deaths have occurred among Oklahoma children under the age of 18 between 2009 and the 2016-17 flu seasons.

"Getting Flu A does not protect you from Flu B", Jones said.

H3N2 strain most common: The vast majority of flu specimens analyzed by the state tested positive for influenza type A (H3N2).

The Health Department stresses that if you are sick, you should stay home and call your doctor.
