Technology gets stranger and at times, more unsafe by the day.

Apple is investigating an incident in which a user's AirPods allegedly began emitting smoke and blew up, according to WFLA.

Colon, of Tampa, was listening to a dance mix at the LA Fitness on 4 Street in St. Petersburg when he noticed something unusual. Originally brought to light via WFLA in Tampa, Colon was in the midst of his regular workout routine at a nearby gym when he first noticed "white smoke billowing out". Realizing that something wasn't right, Colon put the AirPods down on some exercise equipment and ran to get help. When he returned, it appeared that the AirPod had exploded into bits. Colon told the TV station that "It was already popped".

This spells yet another problem for Apple, who has recently dealt with a large amount of backlash due to some questionable decisions they made, with their lack of transparency causing huge public relations issues.

A man's AirPods exploded while he was at the gym YouTube/News Channel 8 A man's AirPods have exploded while he was at the gym. You can see flame damage. "I don't know what would've happened to my ear", he said. But I'm sure since it hangs down, it could've been earlobe. "Ear lobe could've been burnt". Colon realized that he had dodged a bullet by removing the AirPods from his ears in time.

This isn't the first case of a popular product bursting into flames. Of course, there is also the possibility that Colon received a faulty unit.

We connected with Apple yet it declined to remark on the circumstance.

Apple said it is looking into the incident and will reach out to Colon about it.
