2 deputies, 1 police officer shot in Georgia

One police officer was killed and two deputies were shot Friday morning while serving an arrest warrant in Locust Grove, Georgia, located about 40 minutes south of Atlanta.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are now on the scene of an officer-involved shooting at a home on St. Francis Court in Locust Grove.

Sheriff Keith McBrayer told the newspaper that one deputy was in critical condition and the other was stable Friday afternoon.

Locust Grove Officer Chase Maddox, who was shot dead in Atlanta shooting. He said the officer's wife was expecting their second child "any day now".

He said they had no reason to believe when they arrived that the suspect would be violent.

Reports say the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Henry County Sheriff's Office (HCSO), Henry County Police, Locust Grove Police, and an agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are now investigating. The other deputy's vest stopped the bullet, and he was listed in fair condition.

WSB-TV revealed two of the law officers were taken off by helicopter while the third was conveyed by rescue vehicle.

Police blocked off multiple entrances of a subdivision not far from an outlet mall and were turning people who don't live in the neighborhood away.

"It became apparent that the suspect was not going to go with police, which is why a Locust Grove officer was called in to assist", McBrayer said.

"It's quiet. I've never had any issues and I pray I don't have any, said Rodgers, who has lived there almost two years".
