The allegation of racism is understood to have been made by African players in Newcastle's Academy set-up and club sources have confirmed to Telegraph Sport that an investigation is underway with Beardsley set to learn his fate later this week.

A statement made by the 56-year-old's lawyers read: "Peter Beardsley is aware of inaccurate media reports which result from unauthorised leaks".

"Allegations of unfair treatment have been made, which are now being investigated".

It emerged at the weekend that 22-year-old winger Yasin Ben El-Mhanni had made a formal complaint, backed by statements from team-mates, and the investigation has broadened since.

"Peter Beardsley categorically denies the allegations".

"Peter Beardsley will not be making any further comment at the present time and until investigations conclude".

He will be represented by the PFA and also present at the meeting will be the clubs chief-executive Lee Charnley and head of safeguarding Steve Swinyard.

Newcastle United announce that Under-23s boss Peter Beardsley "will take a period of leave" while an investigation continues into complaints made against him.

Beardsley, who is coach of the club's under-23 team, is accused of racism and bullying. The complainants are due to give their evidence this week.

Neither Beardsley or the club are commenting on the allegations.
