The man even shamed Costco for allowing the "ridiculous" return to occur and the woman for asking for her money back.

"I can't make this stuff up", Bentley wrote.

In an incredible display of either clever shopping or ignorance, a woman went to Costco and ordered a refund for her dead Christmas tree - in January.

A Costco in California has reportedly issued a refund after a woman returned her Christmas tree in January claiming it was dead, CBS Los Angeles reports.

"Heartbreaking to think she may have needed that money so much, she lost all self respect and dignity for it", Bentley wrote.

Bentley said that the woman didn't mind that he had taken a photo of her, even as she asked him "are you serious?" But I don't think it fazed her because she has no conscience.

Other people at the store were amazed.

Costco is known for its generous returns policies - with basically any item able to be refunded at any time except electronics, which have a 90 day limit.

While the rest of us were debating where to abandon our trees, one woman chose to take hers back for a refund.
