Trump cryptic about contacts with North Korea's Kim Jong

Following a meeting with Moon in June, Trump said the "era of strategic patience with the North Korean regime has failed".

Earlier, Moon credited Trump for helping to spark the inter-Korean talks, which led to an agreement on North Korea attending the Olympics, and warned that Pyongyang would face stronger sanctions if "provocations" continued. "I'm a very flexible person", Trump added.

"You'll see that a lot with me and then all of the sudden somebody's my best friend".

The paper reported that Trump did not give any inkling if the two bitter rivals have had established any contacts as of yet.

Washington welcomed the talks as a first step towards resolving the crisis over North Korea's program to develop nuclear missiles capable of reaching the United States, but it has reiterated that any talks involving the United States must be aimed at the North's denuclearization.

Trump has mocked Kim's weight and called him "little rocket man" in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly.

CNN quoted Trump as saying: "I don't want to comment on it. I just don't want to comment", adding that his attitude towards North Korea is intentional and part of a broader goal.

The two countries, technically still at war after their 1950-53 conflict ended with a truce, agreed on Tuesday that North Korea would send a large delegation across the border to next month's Games.

Trump has been of late more open, on more than one occasion, to having a dialogue with North Korea.

Trump earlier in the day promised South Korean President Moon Jae-in that he wouldn't attack North Korea while the two Asian nations hold negotiations, and added that he's open to direct USA talks with Pyongyang under the right circumstances. Trump also again indicated he's open to direct U.S. talks with North Korea under the right circumstances. The North said its delegation would comprise athletes, high-ranking officials, a cheering squad, art performers as well as reporters and spectators.

"A lot of good talks are going on right now, a lot of good energy". South Korea needs to abandon its military exercises with the United States and should not allow the U.S. to deploy its modern weapons on the country's territory.

The Kremlin strongman congratulated the North Korean dictator, saying he had won the latest stand-off with the US and South Korea.

On January 9, South and North Korea held a "historic" meeting after a gap of two years.
