In 2018, TCL Roku TVs are slated to receive a range of new features delivered through a software update to the Roku OS.

We recently learned that streaming company Roku is looking to branch out from TVs, and transition to smart assistants and systems.

We learned a few things about the new Voice Assistant during the TCL press conference: TCL said that by fall 2018 the Roku Assistant will be rolling out to select Roku TV models. For example, the TCL Roku Smart Soundbar will be able to turn on a TCL Roku TV when asked to launch video content or stream audio even when the TV is turned off. Consumers will be able to use their voice to play, pause and resume music and audio without picking up a remote control or pushing a button. There is the Roku Connect feature as well. And, with more than 500,000 streaming movies and TV episodes, plus the best selection of music, sports, news, and more, TCL Roku TV is the ideal addition to any home theater.

The TCL Roku Soundbar will be the first of the firm's Alto lineup of audio products. TCL ended 2017 as the #3 smart TV brand in the US, with all of its smart TVs powered by the Roku OS. Likewise, the device will incorporate the Roku Entertainment Assistant to enable voice control support. "We envision a broader Roku ecosystem where the TV is the centre of the home entertainment experience making Roku TV even more desirable. With Roku Connect it will make it easy to add great sound to an already great TV".

Similar to the 6-series, the TCL 5-series, it is an upgrade to the a year ago S lineup.

The brand has switched to a matte metal design, and aside from the 55-inch model, there's also a 65-inch model now. Other enhancements are Wide Color with NBP Photon Technology, 240 Natural Motion technology for a smoother image, and the aforementioned Roku TV enhancements. It comes in sizes from 43- to 65-inches and also ships in spring for as-yet-undisclosed prices. The firm announced that it is collaborating with TCL to build the "TCL Roku Smart Soundbar", coming in late 2018.
