That being said, Globo Esporte report that Manchester United are now negotiating the signing of Lucas Moura from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Brazilian worldwide snubbed a move to United when he left Sao Paulo for PSG in 2013 but it looks like the Red Devils have renewed their interest with widespread reports in recent days suggesting Jose Mourinho has identified him as a January target.

Manchester United look likely to move in the winter transfer window and rumours that started in Paris this morning are now gathering pace in Brazil.

Jose Mourinho's interest in signing a winger dates back to the summer, with the club making an unsuccessful bid to capture Ivan Perisic, and has reportedly expressed a desire to bring Moura to Old Trafford on loan.

PSG, however, are not interested in a temporary deal and have set Lucas' asking price at €40 million (£35m).

Sao Paulo, the club where Moura honed a reputation as one of the game's brightest young talents before leaving for PSG in 2013, had been monitoring the situation.

United thought they had landed him, only for PSG to flex their financial muscle and get the deal done for around £35 million.

The pursuit of a right winger has been a lengthy one for Manchester United.

According to reports in the French media, United had asked PSG about the possibility of taking the Brazil winger on loan, but the Ligue 1 giants insisted they would only consider a permanent transfer for the player.

Mourinho has seen his free-flowing United side splutter in recent weeks as Premier League leaders City pull ever further away in the race for the title.
