Gunmen Kill 2 Police Escorts, Abduct Foreigners Along Kaduna-Abuja Highway

The incidence happened along Kagarko-Jere road when the expatriates were said to have been returning to Abuja from Kafanchan where they had gone for an undisclosed business.

Kidnappers have abducted one American and one Canadian in the northern Nigerian state of Kaduna, killing two police officers, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.

Due details of their adoption are scanty, but the two policemen killed were said to be security escorts to the Canadians. Kidnappings abound in Nigeria, and although they are usually directed towards other Nigerians, those of foreigners are not uncommon.

Canada can not release further details on the case due to privacy concerns, Babcock said.

The incident which has been confirmed by the Kaduna State Police Command spokesman, Mr Mukhtar Aliyu, happened in Kagarko Local Government Area of the state. In October four British were trapped in Delta State in the south, of which three were released after negotiations, but the fourth was killed.

The Abuja-Kaduna road has always been a haunt for kidnappers. The kidnappers killed two police officers in the confrontation.
