Google Play store will soon sell audiobooks

An update for Play Books app specifically mentions "audiobooks", as well as audio playback controls like play and pause. The banner to the category does not appear to be working at the time of publishing this article.

Some users have actually seen a banner on their Google Play Store, announcing that audiobooks are now available to be purchased for your mobile device and on your laptop or desktop.

According to 9to5google, an advertisement banner appeared on Google Play for several users, which revealed that the audiobooks will be available for sale on Google Play. Furthermore, the banner ads itself shows that the initial batch of users will get additional 50% discount on the purchase of their popular Audiobooks from the Play Store for a respective e-book reader device.

Google could be planning to mark a significant entry into audiobooks market if reports are true. There is also no information on when the Google Play Store audiobooks section goes live. Though the link doesn't work for now, we expect it to be operational soon.

There would be plenty of benefits you would get once the giant introduces a complete dedicated Audiobooks section on the Play Store. Audiobooks on the Google Play Store have been hinted in the past as well.

The Audiobooks advertising banner on Play Store itself looks very reasonable to assume that the Audiobooks on Play Store will be the reality soon. Similarly, The Android Soul just recently had also reported that in their APK teardown of the latest update to the Google Play Books app, and they had found a code for several new features, including audiobooks. It said that audiobooks and ebooks will be divided into separate tabs.

Amazon now dominates the audiobook market with its ownership of Audible, the leading retailer of audiobooks.
