STOPPING JULIO: The Eagles had some success against Julio Jones in their win a year ago, keeping him out of the end zone but allowing 10 catches for 135 yards.

If Philadelphia wins, it will host the New Orleans-Minnesota victor next Sunday. The sixth-seeded Falcons finish the year with an 11-7 record.

Ryan, who dropped to 1-4 in games played in his hometown of Philadelphia, was 22-of-36 passing for 210 yards with a touchdown, but he was sacked three times.

Unfortunately for Atlanta, the play was unsuccessful.

"Damn right", Quinn said after the game when asked if he felt confident in Ryan on that fourth down.

"He did a really nice job executing the game plan how we and how I know Nick can". "It was a tough game for him and for us and we'll go back and assess it". That, Ryan was unable to do when, on fourth-and-goal at the two, he rolled to his right and lofted a balloon toward Julio Jones who was smothered by Jalen Mills.

"We had chances to make plays and we didn't make them", Ryan said. That's the life that you kind of live as a competitor.

"You always want to run the ball, take a lot of time off the clock", Freeman said.

"I feel like I played poorly", Ajayi said. The Eagles appeared to rush just four men at the snap, but after Coleman and Toilolo telegraphed they weren't going out on routes, their assigned defenders had license to essentially run a delayed blitz.

The second half was a totally different story. LeGarrette Blount would run for a score on the next play to put the Eagles on the board 6-3.

In the second half, he was 12-for-15 for 145 yards and a 107.0 passer rating, and the Eagles controlled the clock for almost 17 minutes.

Falcons coach Dan Quinn seemed to search for a polite term to compare Eagles fans with the fans the team heard in last week's wild-card win at the Los Angeles Rams. Jay Ajayi's fumble and a misplayed punt that bounced off Bryan Braman led to all 10 Atlanta points. The Eagles defense remained strong in the fourth quarter, forcing a punt after the Falcons started a drive on their own 40-yard line following a kickoff out of bounds.

Nick Foles completed three passes to Alshon Jeffery for 46 yards on the drive, including a 21-yard gain on third-and-8 to extend it. After a costly pass interference by Brian Poole on the first play of the game, Ricardo Allen forced running back Jay Ajayi to fumble. He also avoided big mistakes, getting a break from the kneecaps of Falcons safety Keanu Neal. Foles started out shaky but led two long second-half drives as the Eagles' offensive line asserted its will against a Falcons defense that looked gassed late in the game.

Steve Sarkisian joined the Atlanta Falcons with the daunting task of replicating one of the most explosive offenses in league history. The Eagles weren't happy about it leading up to Saturday.
