DeWanda Wise Is Joining The Cast Of Captain Marvel

The story of Captain Marvel focuses on Marvel character Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. But for a good chunk of time she was Captain Marvel, and was a full-fledged member of the Avengers.

The film, from directing duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck with a script by Nicole Perlman, takes place in the '90s before the events of Iron Man which kicked off the Marvel cinematic universe in 2008.

Captain Marvel will open a little over a year from now, on March 8th, 2019.

There is no news of yet as to who she will be playing, but my guess would be Monica Rambeau aka Photon/Spectrum. It would be great to see one of the most prominent black female heroes in the Marvel Universe get a chance to show up on the silver screen. Her powers are off the charts, and when she's introduced, she will be by far the strongest character we've ever had. Is Dewanda Wise Monica Rambeau, or are fans jumping the gun?

Now, if that's not starting 2018 with a bang, we don't know what is. In the comics, Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau share a love/love/hate relationship but hold a substantial amount of mutual respect for one another.

While it has not been confirmed who Mendelsohn will play, Marvel boss Kevin Feige recently teased that the shape-shifting alien group known as the Skrulls would feature in "Captain Marvel".

Captain Marvel will be the first major movie role for Wise, who previously starred in the series Shots Fired and Underground. Monica would be a fantastic addition to the big screen world of Marvel, as well as potentially opening the door for another fan fave to join the team.
