There's also be a giant-sized amiibo to be released alongside it, that will give you instant access to in-game cut scenes, instead of having to unlock them normally by playing the game.

A spin-off of Generation VI of Pokemon (X and Y, Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby), Detective Pikachu is known as Great Detective Pikachu ~Birth of a New Duo~ in Japan and is a mystery action-adventure game.

Detective Pikachu is a relatively new spin off for the Pokemon series.

Odd things are afoot in Ryme City, but Detective Pikachu is on the case.

A new amiibo will release alongside Detective Pikachu, and it stands head-and-shoulders above other amiibo. These clips will feature quips and antics from Pikachu... and also hints about where to go next.

For those that managed to get their hands on the exclusive in 2016, there will also be a new Easy Mode for those that need a little guidance "uncovering the evidence". There's more to this Pikachu than a detective hat - he's one lovably gruff, tough-talking sleuth, with a taste for good coffee.

If you're wondering why Detective Pikachu can talk, well, that's not really explained.

The Pokemon Company has announced that Detective Pikachu will be coming to Nintendo 3DS in North America on March 23, 2018. And as you can see in the trailer below, Detective Pikachu doesn't like getting bossed around by anyone. Who knows just how hard these challenges will be to necessitate the amiibo, but it may be worth picking up for its 13.6cm height (compared to 7.1cm for the original Pikachu amiibo).

Check out the trailer and let us know if you're as hyped for the upcoming set of case files as we are.
