He has been linked with a move for West Ham's Andy Carroll but in a fresh twist today with a daring attempt to land Roma's Edin Dzeko - the former Manchester City striker who scored twice against Chelsea in the Champions League group stage before Christmas.

Chelsea have been tipped to sign a left-back since the summer to offer cover and competition for Marcos Alonso.

Instead, the club have turned to Roma's Palmieri, who is said to be available for £20m this month.

The 23-year-old has made just one Serie A performance all season and has spent a long time on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Asked if the move is a real possibility, the agent said: "Of course yes, absolutely, the two clubs are now talking, we'll see if it will be successful".

"Obviously, Emerson would love to play in the Premier League and it'd be a dream to work with Conte", his agent added.

Chelsea would thus prefer a loan first, which is a very Italian-style transfer move, but would thus perhaps be an agreeable solution for Roma as well.

The 31-year-old Bosnia global is not the only Roma player on Chelsea's radar, with Brazilian full-back Emerson Palmieri also said to be an option for the Blues, as reported in Metro.

Liverpool FC have already been busy in the January transfer window after having completed the signing of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in a big-money deal at the start of the month.
