CONFIRMED that Arda Turan has joined Istanbul Basaksehir on a loan deal through to the end of the 2019-20 season.

The LaLiga league leaders announced in a statement on Saturday that: "Barcelona have sent Turkish worldwide Arda Turan to Istanbul Basaksehir on a two-and-a-half-year loan deal". Basaksehir's buy-out options remained unspecified.

Turan returns home to Turkey, where he played for Galatasaray and Manisaspor, after finding game-time limited at Barcelona, having not made an appearance this season. Furthermore, his general behaviour in the final months at the club was repeatedly questioned and deemed unprofessional.

He joined the club from Atletico Madrid for 34 million euros (£29 million) plus add-ons in July 2015, winning six trophies but only making 55 appearances and scoring 15 goals.

The duration of the loan spans the remainder of Turan's contract, all but ending his career with the La Liga (Spanish league) giant after two-plus seasons.

Basaksehir president Goksel Gumusdag said: "Arda is returning to his country wearing the orange kit".

It is that lack of game time which has forced him to move on as he seeks more regular first-team football.

After his move to Barca, the authorities in the Istanbul district of Bayrampasa announced that they had named the road where he grew up "Arda Turan Street" in his honour.
