With the New iMac Pro, Apple's Mac Momentum Looks Poised to Continue

With next-generation processors, a stunning Retina 5K display, the most powerful graphics ever in a Mac, super-fast storage and advanced I/O [input/output], iMac Pro is created to handle the most demanding pro workflows and is the first all-in-one built from the ground up to deliver true workstation-class performance. Spotted by AppleInsider, the AppleCare+ cost for the iMac Pro is the same as it is for the iMac. If you max out all of Apple's hardware offerings-which would give you a 2.3GHz 18-core Intel Xeon processor, 128 GB of memory, 4 TB of storage, and a 16 GB Radeon graphics card-the machine jumps to $13,199.

For comparison's sake, a brand new Smart Coupe starts at $14,650, while a Honda Fit will run you slightly more at $16,190, and that's before you figure in any end-of-year discounts dealers are slinging around right about now. If the best spec iMac isn't cutting it for you, here comes the iMac Pro, the most powerful Mac that's designed for professionals. During the Xcode demo we were encouraged to feel the back of the iMac Pro for a heat check, and it was warm to the touch, but I think I've felt more heat from my MacBook Pro.

Scientists and researchers can manipulate massive data sets and complex simulations, visualising data up to 5 times faster.

Video editors can edit up to eight streams of 4K video, or edit 4.5K RED RAW video and 8K ProRes 4444 at full resolution in real time without rendering. For more information, visit: apple.com/au/final-cut-pro.

Of course, a high-end computer is nothing without good software to take advantage of it. The newer version of Final Cut Pro X will include 360-degree VR video editing, advanced colour grading tools, and support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) video. The shortage of to a great degree powerful Macs since the "waste can" Mac Pro has upped the ante and the intrigue level among geniuses for this machine. The FCP users can add 360-degree titles in 2D or 3D and add options like blur, glow or any other immersive effects and then use visual controls to straighten the horizons or remove camera rigs from equirectangular videos.

On a less-exciting note, Apple released another new hardware product today - its own official Thunderbolt 3 cable. However, on Thursday, Apple said that Final Cut Pro X is now the most popular version of the software ever, and that it has sold more than 2 million licenses.
