Want to make Meghalaya top tourist destination: PM Modi

Hailing the first NDA government for its work in the northeast, PM Modi added, "During the tenure of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee significant work was done for the development of the Northeast".

The BJP's agenda, Modi said, will be to ensure speedy and all-round development.

Modi then travelled to Meghalaya capital Shillong, where he inaugurated the BJP's state office and inaugurated the 261-km long East West Corridor, which connects Shillong with Tura in Garo Hills region of the state. PM Modi in his speech also highlighted the ways to uplift the tourism in the state and said, "During my last visit to Meghalaya in May 2016, I spoke about the promotion of tourism in the State". Prime Minister also quoted that Meghalaya will complete its 50 years of Constitution formation in 2022 and its importance. BJP poll strategists say that the PM and party chief Amit Shah will concentrate on these states before they brace up for the next big challenge in Karnataka, which goes to polls in April next year.

"In the spirit of "Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas", every Indian - irrespective of caste, gender, religion, and class -must have equal opportunities to partake in the new prosperity", he added.
