Jeremy Pruitt hasn't even gone through his official introductory press conference as Tennessee's new head coach yet and he's already been working on putting together his staff with the Vols.

Knoxville radio station WNML first reported that Pruitt had accepted the job.

Pruitt has been Alabama's defensive coordinator since 2016. The All-American defensive back said he knows the career assistant Pruitt would make a great head coach. Tennessee went 4-8 this season and set a school record for losses. Pruitt worked previously under Alabama head coach Nick Saban as a defensive backs coach, before moving on to Tallahassee as the defensive coordinator for the Florida State Seminoles.

But if Fulmer has really gotten Pruitt to abandon his alma mater to take over the Vols, Tennessee may have just found the guy to make the Big Orange Nation quickly forget everything negative that has happened since John Currie, the AD at the time, fired Butch Jones on November 12.

The selection of Pruitt ends a coaching search that had become embarrassing for Tennessee as it dragged on.

While at Florida State, his defense was first in the nation in scoring, allowing just 10.7 points per game.

Then Tennessee turned to Washington State head football coach Mike Leach, who reportedly had a great meeting with then Tennessee athletic director John Currie, the deal was blown off as Currie was removed from his position and Phil Fulmer took over the athletic director position as well as the football coaching search on December 1. "Probst thought Prattville was the better team, but "(Pruitt) schemes up the ideal plays and we block two punts that led to touchdowns. The former defensive back played collegiately at both Middle Tennessee and Alabama.

Pruitt's success this season is particularly impressive given how hard Alabama's defense has been hit by injuries.

Pruitt also was defensive coordinator for Florida State's 2013 national championship team, which led the nation in scoring defense. Then the school's athletic director, John Currie, was sacked last Friday, capping an embarrassing stretch for the once-proud SEC school. Pruitt was a 2013 finalist for the Broyles Award.
