Soulcalibur VI's teaser trailer lasts just over a minute, and shows Mitsurugi battling Sophitia throughout the clip with Nightmare's sword throw in to add a little darkness. Today, more details about the Unreal Engine 4 powered fighting game have been unveiled, giving us a better idea of what to expect when the game releases next year. One of those announcements was the reveal for Soulcalibur VI, the latest entry in the long-running and beloved fighting series. But judging from how young the two characters look and a brief look at the Soul Edge - Nightmare's weapon of choice - does hint at a look back at the series' history. Mitsurugi Heishiro and Sophitia Alexandra are already confirmed. Producer Motohiro Okubo will serve as producer on the game.

In a new press release from Bandai Namco, the company says, "Taking place in the 16th century, revisit the events of the original Soulcalibur to uncover hidden truths".

Namco Bandai announced at The Game Awards 2017 that it is now working on Soulcalibur VI and the game will be out very soon. The game does introduce one major new mechanic to the series though: the Reversal Edge.

"The fast and kinetic gameplay of SoulCalibur is on full display in SoulCalibur VI". It's been almost 6 years since the release of Banda Namco's Soulcalibur V, so it's about time for a new installment - and so far, based on The Game Awards reveal, we like what we see.

The weapons and character roster is apparently "stellar" and even more so when "combined with a simple control layout".

SoulCalibur VI is set to launch sometime in 2018.
