Semi-truck hits school bus full of kids, causing it to flip

Three other students and the bus driver were taken to another area hospital with non-incapacitating injuries, according to the report.

The school bus was carrying 39 students when it was traveling north on USA 27 in the right lane, approaching Lake Ridge Drive around 7:42 a.m. Wednesday morning.

At least eight people were injured this morning in a school bus accident in central Florida.

A semi-truck rear-ended the bus, and the bus overturned into a ditch.

Two students were airlifted to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries, the FHP said. Troopers say 39 students were on the bus when it was hit. Hospital leaders have been notified more patients will be arriving.

"Please do not come to the accident scene", HCSO posted on Facebook.

The crash occurred just before 8 a.m. on USA 27 and Lake Placid Drive, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Lockwood faces a careless-driving charge, Bueno said.
