On an episode of Nerdist's podcasttwo years ago, Tarantino explained that while he was a fan of Abrams' Star Trek, he wasn't as fond of Star Trek Into Darkness.

Are you excited about the prospect of a Quentin Tarantino Star Trek movie?

Back in September, during preparation for his upcoming Manson Family film #9, Quentin Tarantino revealed that he had an idea for a Star Trek movie, and that it "would be worth having a meeting about". Yes, really. The report on the site says that Tarantino has shared a pitch for a Star Trek film with Abrams, who apparently was so impressed, he's chose to convene a writer's room in order to develop the project.

Tarantino himself, meanwhile, is gearing up to direct his ninth film, an ensemble period drama set in Los Angeles that Sony will handle. What's more - Tarantino might even direct. No other development on that project has been made public.

At this point, it's unclear whether this means Paramount has abandoned its ambitions for Star Trek 4, which would have seen Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as Captain Kirk's father George Kirk.

But clearly, adding Tarantino's cache to the Trek franchise would be a major coup for Paramount. " He mentioned two episodes in particular: 1967's "The City on the Edge of Forever" from the classic series, and the 1990 Next Generation episode, "Yesterday's Enterprise". It's one of the classic stories of all time, and one of the great time-travel stories.

"I actually think that's one of the great space stories", Tarantino said in the podcast.

His next movie, about the Charles Manson murders, stars Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate and is expected in theaters August 19, 2019.
