Pittsburgh Steelers LB Ryan Shazier showing gradual improvement

Shazier underwent spinal stabilization surgery Wednesday after suffering a severe back injury against the on Monday night.

Schefter also reported sources told him doctors are controlling and limiting Shazier's movement as they wait for the swelling and bruising to subside.

Shazier's football career is in doubt, and Schefter noted "the focus right now is not on his playing career but on trying to facilitate his recovery".

Since he returned to Pittsburgh, Shazier has received visits from Steelers owner Art Rooney and many of his teammates, according to ESPN.

Antonio Brown is one of 15 Pittsburgh players who intend to wear Shazier-inspired cleats Sunday. Majority include wearing some sort of patch with their number on your uniform, but when it came to honoring linebacker Ryan Shazier, the Pittsburgh Steelers made a decision to step things up a bit by honoring their injured teammate with some custom cleats.

The players likely will only be able to wear them during warmups, as he National Football League has strict rules regarding dress code. "Both cleats have Shazier's name and number (50) on them, along with his hashtag "#SHALIEVE".

Shazier, 25, was injured on a first-quarter play when he lunged to stop the Bengals' Josh Malone and his head slammed into Malone's thigh. He was a Pro Bowler last season and is leading Pittsburgh in tackles this year.
