ESPN took time to discuss the bowl slate on Sunday and touched on the matchup between the Gamecocks and Wolverines.

The Gamecocks ended their regular season alone in second in the SEC East division, going 5-3 in league play. The game is slated to kickoff on New Year's Day at noon EST on ESPN2.

SC opened as between an 8 1/2- and 9 1/2-point favorite against the Wolverines.

"I'm also extremely excited for our fans to have an opportunity to watch this team play one more time in a great destination city like Tampa and against a storied program like the Michigan Wolverines".

This will mark the fourth meeting between the two schools and the second between the two squads in the Outback Bowl. Outside of winning their 2013 postseason matchup, the garnet and black won in Ann Arbor 17-14 in 1980, while MI came to Columbia in 1985 and left with a 34-2 victory. The bowl game will give the Gamecocks a shot to reach nine wins, something that hasn't been accomplished at SC since 2013. The Gamecocks lost in an action-pact, high scoring 2016 Birmingham Bowl to South Florida in overtime 46-39.

USC's all-time record in bowl games is 8-13, holding a 3-1 record in the Outback Bowl.

"Michigan proudly accepts the invitation to have our student-athletes, coaches and fans experience the Outback Bowl this holiday season", said Warde Manuel, the Donald R. Shepherd Director of Athletics at MI. Tickets are priced at $80 for regular lower level seating and $170 for Club level seating.
