Mohali ODI: Sri Lanka opt to field; Washington Sundar makes debut

Rohit Sharma, who is leading Team India in the absence of Virat Kohli, dedicated his third double century to his wife Ritika Sajdeh on the occasion of their second marriage anniversary today.

With wickets tumbling at the other end, Mathews switched gears to reach within striking distance of his second ODI century, which came off 122 balls, when he nudged a delivery from Bhuvneshwar through mid-wicket for two runs even as the visitors fell short by 141 runs in the end.

Sharma singled out tormentor in the first ODI Lakmal in the 44th over and scored 26 runs off it which included four sixes of four legal balls. Rohit batted like an artist who explored the full range of expression, combining finesse with mesmerising bat-swing and shot selection, merging discipline with desire. He completed the landmark of 100 in 115 deliveries and in his next 38 deliveries, he collected an astounding 108 runs. The batsman slog-swept the first ball for a six over square leg.

The 30-year-old Rohit is the first batsman in ODI history to score three double tons. He hit his last six of the innings the next ball before taking a single.

India need to fight back to win the Mohali ODI after losing at Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh) by 7 wickets.At the half way stage of their innings, India were 133 for one with Rohit batting on unbeaten 52 from 68 deliveriese and has so far hit five boundaries.New comber Iyer was batting on 15. In 2014, in Eden Gardens, Rohit, after being dropped on four, thrashed the Sri Lankan bowlers to all corners and made a sensational 173-ball 264 - the highest ever individual score in ODIs.
