Manchester City's David Silva doubtful for crucial Manchester derby

Foden is the more likely of the two but Yaya Toure and Ilkay Gundogan might have dibs on that position, with Pep Guardiola keen to ensure he doesn't allow his players' mentality to creep into the realm of complacency.

Since his arrival from Benfica in the summer, Ederson has looked completely at home in Manchester City's goal. Shakhtar have been unable to play in their home city for the past three years due to civil war.

Silva, who scored the pivotal winner against West Ham United on Sunday, was left out of the City squad that travelled to Kharkiv for their final Champions League group game against Shakhtar Donetsk.

"He was uncomfortable in the last minutes after the goal", Guardiola told a news conference on Tuesday.

"There will be better teams (who play City) than Huddersfield, Southampton and West Ham, yet all came close". He's injured but he will play for sure.

City have been in irresistible form this season but it appears that teams may have identified a potential Achilles heel in their defence at set pieces.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has aimed a subtle dig at Pep Guardiola and Arsene Wenger by declaring he would only tell "the truth" about the fitness of his players.

Even so, his starting line up was worth upwards of £280 million - while it also included two of their academy players - Phil Foden and Tosin Adarabioyo.

"No, we have no injuries", he said.

City have dropped points just once in the Premier League this season, but Guardiola is under no illusions of invincibility as they prepare to make the short trip to Old Trafford.

Luke Shaw is Mourinho's other option, but he's fallen out of favour with the boss and it seems that there's little chance he'll get a run in the first team.

United fell behind late in the first half when Vitinho's shot from Mario Fernandes's cut-back struck team-mate Alan Dzagoev on its way into the net.

Fernandinho - captaining City against his old club - made a superb block to deny Facundo Ferreyra after a pull back from Taras Stepanenko.

With Mark Noble absent, Fernandes proved what he can alongside Pedro Obiang and Cheikhou Kouyate, and it is difficult to see Moyes moving away from that trio if they all remain fit and available.
