LeT's divisional commander, aide killed in Qazigund gunfight

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) - Two militants and a trooper were killed, while another trooper was wounded Monday in a gunfight in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said. One soldier was injured in the initial shootout. Due to encounter, authorities suspended traffic on Jammu-Srinagar highway while train service to Banihal was also stopped.

The killed militants were reportedly involved in the Amarnath yatra attack in Anantnag, which had claimed eight lives.

"The security personnel encircled a house, where the militants had taken refuge". The search operation turned into an encounter with militants, the official said.

However, army chased the militants, who took refuge inside a residential house and fired upon them, triggering a fierce gunfight.

"Two to three militants are believed to be inside the building", the police added. In ensuing encounter, another Army jawan was injured, the police said. Four protesters were injured during clashes and firing by security forces.

The militants fired at the patrol team in Qazigund area which has been cordoned off for searches, the officer said. Defense Spokesperson said, "The operation against terrorists is going on and so far they haven't recovered dead body of any terrorists".
