An emotional scene played out on "The View" on Wednesday when former Vice President Joe Biden consoled Meghan McCain, who broke down while discussing her father's brain cancer diagnosis.

She says, "I think about Beau nearly every day and I was told that this doesn't get easier but that you cultivate the tools to work with this and live with this".

Watch the whole clip above, and get ready to have tissues on hand - because the way McCain breaks down while talking about her dad combined with the compassion Biden shows for her, will absolutely break your heart. "I know you and your family have been through tragedy that you can't conceive of". "Senator McCain looks forward to returning to work as soon as possible".

"There's breakthroughs that are occurring now, there's four things that are going on, and it can happen tomorrow", he said. The following October, his plane was shot down during a bombing mission over Hanoi. One study found that 10% of patients live five years or more. Throughout his final year as vice president, Biden directed much of his attention towards advancing a so-called "moonshot", an effort at finding new cures and treatments for cancer in memory of his late son.

Biden, 74, considered a run for the Oval Office in 2016, but decided against it, later citing the trauma of his son's death keeping him from the race. The elder McCain was diagnosed earlier this year with glioblastoma, a type of aggressive brain cancer that typically has a very poor prognosis. "I know if I picked up the phone tonight and called John McCain and said, 'John, I'm at Second and Vine in Oshkosh, and I need your help". (The audience applauded enthusiastically.) "Her dad goes after me hammer and tongs", Biden said.

John McCain thanked Biden later Wednesday afternoon.
