One thing that will make even the ardent Mac users think hard over purchasing this beast, is the price tag on the iMac Pro.

Translation: it's a hulking great mega beast with astonishing power, a lovely screen and fantastic graphics. Apple confirmed today that the all-in-one iMac Pro will be available starting December 14, and it will have a starting price of $4,999 (which was previously known).

Given that this is a pro machine, you can configure up to 128GB of DDR4-2666 ECC memory, and up to 4TB of SSD storage. Apple doesn't mention base clock speeds but lets on that Turbo Boost speeds up to 4.5 GHz are on tap.

We knew back in June that iMac Pros would be built around Intel Xeon CPUs with eight, 10, or 18 cores.

YouTube personality Marques Brownlee was given the iMac Pro for a week ahead of the launch and recently posted a video about his thoughts on the system.

You can pick up the new HiRise Pro directly from Twelve South or on Amazon. The report believes that the iMac Pro will get a release next week - so, right before the Xmas break.

For graphics, the iMac Pro will include the all-new Radeon Pro Vega chip, which is three times faster than previous iMac GPU. The device's itself comes in a hot new space gray colour, and Apple is also bringing the fresh splash of colour to the Magic Keyboard, the Magic Mouse 2, and the Magic Trackpad 2. Apple touts various impressive hardware specs on the iMac Pro's website, but there are also some features that they did not mention. Once you invest in an iMac Pro, you're stuck with that configuration until you sell it (fortunately, Macs do tend to retain their value on the secondhand market better than PCs) or retire it.
