Google shuts chrome apps section for Mac and Windows users

As announced earlier Search Engine Giant Google has shut down the Chrome Apps web Store all platforms. Today Google followed through: Chrome browser users can no longer access or install apps from the Chrome Web Store. Hosted apps were basically glorified bookmarks, which makes little sense on a real desktop OS but gave Chrome OS users a way to pin important webpages to certain parts of the UI. While Chrome Apps have now disappeared from discovery, they can still be downloaded with a direct link. With this move by Google, Users won't be able to install chrome applications from now.

Chrome Remote Desktop is of course Google's remote admin tool, allowing you to remotely access your, or someone else's computer, tablet or phone. You might have already seen some of these on your mobile device: they're sites that get a full-screen immersive interface, push notifications, and an icon on your home screen. Since Chrome apps are soon to be deprecated completely early next year, this web portal and its accompanying extension replace the app. In smartphones, native apps have proved to be more popular than web apps for their reliability and speed. Existing apps will continue to work and receive updates. "We will be removing support for packaged and hosted apps from Chrome on Windows, Mac, and Linux over the next two years".

Just like with the app, this new web portal has support for accessing a remote device as well as giving remote access to your device. To combat the problem, the Chrome team recently launched Progressive Web Apps (PWAs).

Google is now looking forward to bring the Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) to the desktop.
