A MHP trooper who responded to the scene says the crash claimed the life of a Polson woman in her sixties.

The impact reportedly caused the SUV to cross the center line, at which point their vehicle was hit broadside by a Chevrolet Tahoe, after which the Traverse veered off the road and overturned.

The Montana Highway Patrol reports the crash, which is believed to have been a head-on, happened just before 3 p.m. near Ravalli. The driver, Leticia Verde, 32, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital in Joplin.

Five occupants of the other SUV were also injured in the collision.

The Highway Patrol is investigating a crash Tuesday afternoon on US-70 near University Station Road in Durham. They were driving east in the direction of Fairview, where they reside.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Stephen J. Shaffer, 53, of Sarcoxie, was not injured, the patrol said.

Five people from the SUV were taken to the hospital, four with serious injuries and one with moderate injuries, according to the report. "You look at the vehicles, it's a wonder that everybody wasn't killed".
