This news comes months after the two reconciled after years of not speaking to one another. They also encouraged Sir Elton to take comfort with his family including husband David Furnish and the couple's two children. "I only saw her last Monday and I am in shock", John wrote. Thank-you for everything.

Sir Elton John says that he is "in shock" to learn of his mother's passing.

John, 70, had recently rekindled his relationship with his mother in May, after nearly nine years of not speaking to each other.

Elton John has expressed his heartbreak over the death of his mother, aged 92.

In May, John, 70, shared how happy he was to be back in communication with her again.

He wrote on Instagram: "Dear Mum, Happy Mother's Day!".

John then failed to show up to his stepdad's funeral in 2010 and Farebrother furthered the feud by hiring an Elton John tribute act for her 90th birthday party.

Paul Bacon, who performs as "Ultimate Elton", charmed Ms Farebrother so much that the pair stayed in touch - and struck up an unlikely friendship. Mrs. Farebrother had previously been a constant support to her son throughout his mesmerizing career.

John participated in the ITV documentary, Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy. It wasn't until her 90th birthday that he reached out by sending her white orchids. "He told me I thought more of Bob Halley than I did of my own son", Farebrother said.

She said: "I told him: I'm not about to do that and drop them".

"And he then banged the phone down". "I don't hate my mother".
