Bangladesh President Hamid to join OIC special summit on Jerusalem

It has 57 member countries and is headquartered in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

"The Extraordinary Summit is convened at the request of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan in his capacity as the Chair of the 13th Islamic Summit, following the announcement by the United States of America (US) on Dec 6 to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel", it said.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will attend the extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit on Al-Quds Al-Sharif being held in Turkey on December 13.

Bangladesh also urged all related parties to take a "pragmatic approach" to the Middle East Peace Process in reaching a two-state solution for peace and stability in the region.

Accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman and senior government officials, the prime minister is scheduled to arrive tonight.

The premier will convey the sentiments of the people and government of Pakistan and their unequivocal support to the people of Palestine.

Najib said last week that the USA recognition of Jerusalem as Israeli capital is unacceptable and that "we strongly reject the suggestion forever to make Jerusalem the capital of Israel".

He was quoted by the Hürriyet Daily News on Saturday as saying that such a declaration could have a very strong impact on a political level.

The remarks came during a telephone call with the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani as the leaders discussed the United States decision on Jerusalem and plans to move the American embassy to the holy city.
