Edwards also offered up this gem as he paraphrased former Arizona State star Pat Tillman: "Football ignites my soul".

On Monday, Edwards held his first news conference since being hired as Arizona State's football coach.

Hopefully, the big man upstairs takes no issue.

Edwards' Arizona State players may recognize him from his work as an analyst on ESPN, but majority were infants when he delivered his "You play to win the game" rant during a news conference as the head coach of the the New York Jets in 2002.

Edwards will oversee ASU's "New Leadership Model", which will implement a "general manager structure" to the Sun Devil football program.

Anderson, who once represented Edwards as an agent, doesn't buy that line of thinking. Anderson also notes that "the head coach will be a dynamic and tireless recruiter". "I'll be back in studio in Bristol (at ESPN), and I'll be coaching football by the way", Edwards said.

With Edwards back on the sidelines coaching, more of these sort of exchanges are just bound to continue.

This time, Edwards will be calling the shots in college as the new head coach for Arizona State University.

Only Edwards knows that answer, but it is fun to believe he isn't sure what team he's coaching. He was 39-41 with the Jets, who reached the playoffs three times in his tenure.

"Passion for my faith, my family and my occupation as a football coach are the things that have driven me back to the grass", said Edwards. It's a collaborative approach to managing the ASU football program that includes sport and administrative divisions, which will operate as distinct, but collective units focused on elevating all aspects of Sun Devil Football.

"Arizona State will introduce Edwards as its new coach at a Monday morning news conference", AZ Central reported on Sunday. The coach he's replacing, Todd Graham, went 46-31 in six years and led the team to five bowl games.
